Rafalek Babicz is a cheerful and always smiling boy. He will be 7 years old this coming October, 2008. When he was 9 months old he was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

He has never walked and is not able to sit on his own. The sickness is not curable. It also causes muscular atrophy- gradual disappearance of muscles needed in the process of breathing-which will make him unable to breathe on his own.

We were told by the doctors that children with this disease do not live more than four years, so we are very happy to be with Rafałek each day.

We are afraid that this sickness will take him from us any day. We thank God for each day we can spend with him. Fighting this sickness is very difficult and we know that we are not able to win…The only thing we can do is to  provide Rafalek with constant rehabilitation that is scheduled 2 to 3 times a week in a medical place located around 15 km from his home
